I keep seeing the potholder exchanges, and I really want to participate. The truth is that I am so new to sewing that I can't yet make the really fancy ones I see here. I do know how to make scented hot pads, but they aren't exactly pot holders. Do you think that people would be okay with these?

Please be really honest about this. You won't hurt my feelings if you say no.

They can be used as pot holders if they are like the one I have. Mine has a slot in the back so you can replace the "scent". Couldn't you just make a scented hotpad without the slit for the scent packet and putting a little loop on one corner. You could even use a little heavier ribbon to make the loop. You can also sew several strips of fabric together and then cut your square out on an angle to make the top half of your potholder. Good Luck and give it a go. You can always use them yourself if you are not satisfied with them but I bet they will be great.

I understand about some people being allergic and I think something on the outside of the package would be good but I would LOVE a scented hot pad! And everyone here is still in the learning process just some are farther along then others so I'm sure what you consider not fancy would be fancy to some really really newbies. I'm sure anyone on this board would love your potholders I know I would.

I totally agree with the first post that scented items are not for everyone. I find over perfumed things and people offensive. It is their right to use a bottle and a half of cologne, but where is my right to not have to inhale it. WE have solved the second hand smoke problem in this country, lets now tackle the second hand cologne problem.

I don't like over perfumed things and people either, but aren't we talking about fragrances like apple and cinnamon?

I agree with not putting perfume or scents on your hot pads. Even if it is labeled on the outside of the package. If a person who is highly allergic comes in contact or around an item that has scents, the person can have a severe life threatening allergic reaction and can die within 5 minutes if not treated immediately. There are too many people out there with allergies. And we do not know who they are. I am a nurse and I have seen this happen.

ok.... then how about just making the hot pad and leaving the scent out but leaving the place where someone can put their own scent if they want that way people with allergies can use it without the scent.

Not do do people have allergies -I have fibro and strong scents make me feel sick and get a blinding head ache.

It seems we have gotten off on a tangent here with all the scent. I guess it would be best not to send anything with a smell unless you know the person would want it.
I just want to say that I'm sure any potholder or non-scented hot pads you made will be happily recieved.
