potholders - need help
 

I want to make a bunch of square potholders and cannot remember what I used as lining when I made some 20 odd years ago.

I use Insul-brite and 2 layers of Warm & Natural

As for what you used 20 years ago ... many years before that, my Mom used to make pot holders with layers of flannelette and/or old towels and certainly nothing special like Insul-Bright. And guess what? we never burned our hands! :)

yes insul-brite and warm & natural and i also use flannel. you can get insul-brite for $2.99/yd (or less with 40% coupon) at Michael's. Michael's is the cheapest place i have found insul-brite. good luck.

flannel, old wool blankets, towels, almost anything (except polyester) would go into potholders years ago!!

I prefer to use cotton or wool for the 'batting' because I think it protects me from the heat better than insul-bright.

I use old towels.

Old towels work well. One layer if they're thick, 2 layers if they're thinner. You can figure it out just by handling it.

I am a big fan of old anything inside of potholders ... I have used everything from old terry towels/robes, cotton sweatshirts, flannel shirts, old sweaters ( think boiled wool)and the trimmings from quilt battings ... you name it it makes it into the "innerds" of my potholders.

I made about 40 potholders one year for Christmas. I used two layers of Quilter's Dream Select weight and they're just about perfect. It's been long enough ago since I made them people are starting to mention they might need new ones.
