Prairie points- pins or clips
This may be a dumb question, it won’t be my first (or last) so here goes- I watched all the prairie point videos, looked through all the tutorials and boards with all the tips I could find. The tons of squares are all cut out and pressed and now I’m ready. I started to use clips to hold the points in place and then pin them. So then I’m asking myself- do I really need the pins? I could try it but I might cry to see all the squares scatter to the ground or be really bummed if they moved out of place. I’ve become really good at removing stitches and don’t need anymore practice at that.
Some day I hope to have smarter questions, but I’m so happy to have a place to ask anyway... thank you so much for bearing with me as I learn. |

Welcome to the Board.
Do you mean pinning to hold them in place on the quilt edge ready to sew on? You could try sticking them to strips of contact paper (the stuff you line drawers with). That way the prairie points can be moved to fit more easily. I've never made them so it's just an idea. |

It just dawned on me - there's also adhesive tape, at least you wouldn't have to cut strips. Leave 1/2" bare so you can sew onto the quilt. (redrew the pic)

Yes, pin the points. Please don't cry. You could also use a dot of glue on the edge or seam tape. It's worth the extra time to make sure they don't slip out of place. Did you see this one?

I glue all on my quilt and then sew them. I rarely use pins, detest pins. It's either glue or Wonder clips for me.

Glue= Washable School Glue

I have put prairie points on several quilts and I always use straight pins to hold them. If you don't want to sew over pins, take them out as you come to them. Works for me.

Rhonda- no I didn’t see that one but wish I would have... I’m done - first fully completed project. I’m happy with it, it’s not perfect, but I learned a lot along the way. Thanks to lots of people on this board who unknowingly helped me through it. |
