Prairie Points
I've heard different views on this topic. What size do you usually cut your squares to make prairie points? Do you use an Accuquilt cutter to help out, which die? Thanks!
I think the size of the prairie points depends on both the size of the blocks in the quilt (so the scale is pleasing) and also on the perimeter of the quilt (how many will fit nicely without either too many gaps or crowding).
Can you show a picture of the project you are working on? |
They certainly add an interesting design feature and can be a size that pleases you. I think the important thing is to not crowd them.
I use the continuous prairie points method and their size is based on how long a strip I need to go along each side of the quilt
I have a ruler that is for continuous prairie points. It works great.
What ruler would that be? Thanks!

Wow! Thank you!
I also love Prairie Points on quilts...but no special rulers or Accuquilt cutter for me. Just 4" blocks for a twin, queen, or king quilt. Of course baby quilts are a bit smaller.

Great list of resources for prairie points!
I just did one that the points were 2 1/2 inches before folding.

I love making the continuous points.
What I know is if they are too big the points need to be tacked down. A button can be sewn on the points to keep them from getting messed when the quilt is folded. I haven't made any lately, I think I started with 4" square.

You can also make the continuous prairie points using two colors. The two colors will alternate. You start with sewing two strips together, then treat them as if they were one strip.
