Prairie Points When Short on Fabric
 

I wanted to make Prairie Points for my GGD's quilt and knew I was short of fabric. They take a lot of fabric when made the two conventional methods.

Sooooo, this is what I did. I cut a rectangle 4-1/4" x 2-3/8" to give me the finished size I wanted. Fold the long side in half and then stitched 1/4" inch on the long side. Trim the corner, finger press the seam open and turn right side out which causes a point. Center the seam and then press flat. Place seam down when attaching to your project. (I will be adding a button near the tip of the Point.)

It took me several tries on scraps to determine the cut measurements. If you want bigger or smaller Prairie Points, just play around like I did. --- Hope this is clear.

Yes, I think that is a great idea that worked out fine. English way of flying geese is making a 'book' and putting a folded page inside and sewing it on one edge only...making the size you wish it to be. Even though I may have lots of fabric, I am always trying to save any bit that I can when sewing.

I do that! It just as I g fabric but cut way down on the thickness in the seams. I figured it out when doing Dresden plates..so much easier, too!

So if I'm understanding this it's like you make the point on the blade of a Dresden plate with the seam on the underside going vertically from the point. How clever!

This sounds like a great way to do prairie points. I am definitely going to play around with it doing different sizes. And I am going to try to remember to write down my dimensions for the different sizes so I don't have to keep figuring them out.
I also hope someone can post pictures also.
