Prarie Points Question

When you launder a quilt with prarie points, do they end up looking all messy and wrinklie? This is a question about any loose type of bordering. Quick Points Ruller video (shown at FatQuarter Quilt Shop) is showing loose scallops as a pretty border treatment and they are very pretty, but when you wash a quilt, what keeps them from looking like a mess?

when you wash a quilt, what keeps them from looking like a mess? --- ironing when it comes out of the dryer- or, taking it out of the washer and laying the quilt out flat to dry- smoothing the points into place when it is laid out- then ironing for that nice crisp look. .... or--dry cleaning the quilt

Thanks for asking this question. I've never done a quilt with 3D accents (prairie points, 3D pin wheels etc.) and was wondering the same thing.

I have a Christmas Quilt I made about 30 years ago, with prairie points, it has been washed dozens of times, and I never had to do anything. I have other quilts, I put prairie points on that are not as old and I have never had trouble with then either.

My prairie points usually come out of the dryer looking great. After I fold the quilt is when they get messed up. I am not about to press a finished quilt. I made a quilt kit with large prairie points and I fixed the problem by sewing buttons on it to hold them in place.

I've only made one quilt with prairie points. When I washed it, the points looked just fine. HOWEVER, the fabric I used for the points was not 100% cotton. That might have made a difference... don't know.

When I washed a quilt with prairie points, the points came out fine, but the edges of the folds lightened up, as if the dye rubbed off. It was good fabric, so I was surprised.

I have a quilt with prairie points and when I wash it, some of them come out "folded". I just have to finger press them and they are fine.
