It's only 5:15 am here in California and I'm awake and wishing Joann's was open! I need some penguin fabric for a Bow Tucks and some light batiks.

I'm usually up early on my days off because I look forward to having all day to work on my projects. It gets me up and going (after coffee, of course) and adds that little touch of excitement to be able to do something I enjoy so much and look forward to.

I know what you mean! My hubby loves to sleep in but I get up when I wake up at dawn and just get going. I feel like I waste the day if I don't get something accomplished in the morning.

Happy Holidays :)

quiltinghere 12-04-2010 05:24 AM

I'm with you there on not wanting to 'waste' a minute of a day off. It's amazing that I can stay up late the night before and wake up early on the day off.

Maybe it's the excitement of doing what we WANT to do that helps. :)

pittsburgpam 12-04-2010 05:43 AM

Yep... on a weekday when I wake up at 5am I look at the clock and try to go back to sleep because I know that I HAVE to get up at 6:30 and I'm going to be working all day.

On the weekends I know that I can take an afternoon nap if I want to. :D If I happen to sleep in until 7 or 8 I feel like I've wasted half the day.

Have a fun day sewing :-)

crt 12-04-2010 06:04 AM

I feel the same way. I don't sew on the weeknights, because by the time I get home from work, have dinner and my shower, all I want to do is flop in the chair. My weekends are the only sewing time I have, for the most part.

I'm teaching a bag class at the LQS today, then tomorrow I hope to finish 2 tablerunners for my boss to give as gifts and a calendar keeper I'm finishing for a friend. Then I have a bag to make for another friend to give her daughter for Christmas.

If I can get all these projects finished, it's back to sewing for ME!

I'm an early bird too usually up by 4:30. I saw numerous penquin christmas fabric. Hopefully, you can find some.
I'm from CA lived there 49 years. Grew up in Danville raising horses. Then when married lived in Vacaville in Solano. My whole family still there. Miss the ocean alot, but not all the people.

Hope you have a wonderful holiday season!!! :-D

I am not an early bird, but love the quiet of the late evenings when I am home alone and can sew to my hearts content.

Me too!If I could stay off this board I would get alot done!

IrishNY 12-04-2010 07:42 AM

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. During the week, I DRAG myself out of bed early to go to work. I look forward to weekends so I can sleep in and then I never do because I have so many things I want to do, I'm up and at it early.

I think it is because it's the things I want to do, don't feel obligated to do.

P.S. We should consider asking the admin to shut the board down for 24 hours and then compare notes about what we were able to make in that time. I bet we would be shocked! I too spend too much time I should be sewing on here but it's addicting!

pittsburgpam 12-04-2010 08:10 AM

I think we'd all have withdrawl if the board was shut down for a day!! I sit here for hours looking and reading everything. Think how much I could have got done... I could have bound the lap quilt that is waiting. :D

Well I'm in the same time zone. Its after 8 so your probably gone to Joanns. Did you find penguin fabric? I was there yesterday and seen some really cute penquins.

janb 12-04-2010 08:22 AM

I wake up every day about 4:30 and after coffe, I hear the news and then off to the sewing room. My DH sleeps until about 10 or 11 and then its time for brunch... I love the early mornings and am able to get a lot accomlished. Best time for sewing, but not for planning...

pittsburgpam 12-04-2010 08:31 AM

I haven't left yet, still in PJs. I just finished the first block of a new quilt so I can stop here and get ready to go. I was at Joann's yesterday too and I totally forgot about the penguins.

happymrs 12-05-2010 06:52 AM

The older I get the less I seem to sleep. Just me & DH now, empty nesters, & I love my quiet mornings, no matter how I spend them. He is one who, the first thing he gets up, the tv goes on, & seems to stay on till we go to bed at night! How fun is that, & who needs it, constantly. I use to love mornings when the kids were home, & I was the only one up then too. I guess, for most of us women, lol, some things, like this, never change. I try not to sleep in much, or often, like some of you have said, I feel like my day is wasted if I sleep the morning away!..This morning it is snowing outside, so here I sit with my first cup of coffee, enjoying watching it come down. Don't care to be out in it, but sure like to watch it coming down, so peaceful....

pittsburgpam 12-05-2010 07:29 AM

I used to love the quiet, early mornings when I had kids at home too. It is just so still and peaceful either bundled up in the cold winter mornings or enjoying the cool before the heat of the day.

What is a calendar keeper?

You are all making me wish I was a morning person.

doowopddbop 12-06-2010 06:47 AM

Last night I dreamed that I broke into a quilt shop and got all of my projects done. Then I got caught!! Maybe my dreams are trying to tell me something!!

I am a early riser also. I'm retired but I love my mornings to have coffee, check out my quilting projects and then sew. Sewing in the early morning is so relaxing and then if I have things to do there is the afternoon to get out of the sewing room and do chores or run errands.

I find if I sew in the morning I make less mistakes,as the day wears on my seam ripper and I become very intimate.

I'm an early riser too. I like quiet time to do devotions with my cup of tea. My DIL calls me three days a week at 7am. Of course it's on the three days I could sleep late if I wanted to. I gladly get up for her calls. I'm glad she loves me enough to want to call so often. We usually talk about Olivia. My favorite subject.

Judie 12-06-2010 07:56 PM

I love to stay up after everyone is asleep and the house is quiet.. so I stay up late late, and sometimes I stay up so late that it becomes early!! On the other hand I also love the early mornings.. I love to be awake before the birds wake up, and listen to them as they wake up.. first one will cheep.. then again.. then another will wake up and add his two bits.. then another and another until the whole morning is filled with bird songs.. Because I love both so much, I don't sleep very much at all.. Good thing I don't seem to need much anymore!
