pressing bargello strips
I am attempting my first bargello wall hanging and my strips are 1 3/4" wide. The instrustions show how to press the seams open on the back, but with them being so small I am having a hard time getting them pressed and the seams pressed even on the front.
Can anyone give me some suggestions? |
I have a friend with a tiny little iron, I have never used one, but I can see that being a good tool for this. Good luck

I use the small iron by Clover. Looks something like a solder iron. Works great for the itty bitty seams. I press as I go so I don't have to try to do them all at once.

I have a little iron I will try that. Thanks

I use "the strip stick." It's a half round covered with a little batting and a tight cover of muslin. Their web site is www.thestripstick.com

I've made quite a few bargellos and never pressed the seams open. I press one strip with the seams going up and the next strip with the seams going down. I think it's much harder to match the seams with them being pressed open.

"Finger press" with a Japanese pressing bone or end of a wooden rule or plastic rule. Mine always line up and I use the locking method where one seam goes in the opposite direction to the other. You can iron it when it is all sewn together and that way you have minimal stretching or movement.
