I bought one of those silvery ironing board covers once. I hated it. Everything slid off of it and landed on the floor. It really made me mad. I think it reflected back the heat and ironed items will, but I didn't like it being so slippery.

i have used drapery pieces and made my own cover, so it would e large enough and not so skimpy like the purchased ones. i add a new layer of padding under, don't take out the old.

I watched on Youtube how to make your own ironing board cover. Loved it...made it...now I have my purple cover. I know, I know your all jealous. I just covered my old pad with my new cover could not ask for anything better. It is beautiful, if I do say so myself.

The most important thing is to have an iron that turns off automatically.
(Especially if you are elderly) An emergency interuption can happen anytime. or the iron can topple over or be toppled over by a pet. |
My sewing space was too small for a big board, but I read somewhere on this board a while back that it is much easier to press yardages if you simply flip your board around, then the larger more square area is in the area you use most. Works like a charm for me.

[quote=QuiltE]So let's share all there is to know about the subject.
The tips and hints, and what you have and do!! If you use the silvery material for a cover it gets really hot and it reflects the heat back onto the fabric. I was always taught not to use it. Just my thoughts. peg-TX |

This board makes it really easy to press yards of fabric. :) http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-62721-1.htm Just my 2 cents. |
When I am using a regular ironing board I always turn the board around so that the narrow end is on my right , away from me. After seeing this my Mother never did it any other way. Loved it. Another thing is to make your own cover ( fabric should be pre washed so that it will shrink B/4 the cover is made )
