Pressing Quilt Blocks Question
 

I started piecing the quilt blocks but pressing the second set of strips to the dark (towards the center)
creates bulk at the intersections on the back. The top and bottom white strips are pressed to the white strip as it lays flatter. You can see the double white fabric in the seam line. I don't use white fabric much in quilts.

The center blocks are light fabrics too. When I pressed the first set of side strips to the fabric, it shows through also. Does the quilting and batting take care of this issue.

Will it matter in a 100 years?

I have orange slices for company. I have no stress.

The white on white issue is one of the reasons why I press my seams open. At least all things are equal that way.

Sometimes a white batting actually makes the issue worse and you want to go with a more off-white. Try both and see what you like/how the fabrics react.

I find once I have something quilted down and I put it away for awhile, I'm always much happier with the project than I was with it 6" from my face. And I think your project is lovely!

I have also developed a quilting pattern to run along that shadow, it helps hide it. But I only do that when it bothers me, most of the time it disappears with white batting.

I happen to be one of those people that don’t have an issue with seeing the shadow of the white seams so I press to which ever way lays flat! I guess it depends on how much it bothers you as to which way you should press, what bothers you more the shadow or the bulk?

What a lovely project. I have found once it's sewn together and with the quilt sandwiched it becomes less noticeable. Also the quilting helps too. Good luck.

I love your fabric and the "frames" to set it off. Are you following a pattern? Would love to see it as itprogresses.

If the seam shows through, just consider it to be another dimension and let it be. Let's face it that up close, it really shows but when it rests on the bed or on the wall and you stand back, it's not nearly as noticeable. Love how crisp and clean these blocks are. Nice choice! (I'd press to the white so the block is flatter.)
