pressing a quilt?
I was wondering if anyone presses there quilts after it is all quilting and the binding on it.
Thanks... |
I have pressed the edge with a low temperature iron. Depending on the batt, you have to be careful with heat.

Not sure why one would want to press. Some people will block a quilt after it is finished to make sure it lies flat and square.
|
I sometimes "steam" a quilt with an iron barely touching, or not touching, to help shrink up some parts of the quilt or tame the new binding I just put on.

I just wash them

I just toss them in the washer and dryer. I've pressed it enough by then!
|
I wash them. I have gotten so I press the edges and flatten them out before putting the binding on but I just press the edges.
|
I couldn't imagine a reason for pressing at that point. At this point if the quilt is a gift I just want it gone!
|
I press my quilts if they are going in a show. They hang straighter and [resent better to the judges. Its a lot of work but worth the effort.

Sometimes I press a quilt after I wash it. I am one of those who doesn't like the crinkly look. I use cotton batting though. Not sure I would iron polyester batting.
