I have never used a kit before but I have two of them now. I always prewash my fabric but am wondering if that is okay to do with a kit? I don't know how much extra is normally provided (I'm assuming not much, if any), so I was wondering if I prewash will shrinkage and end fraying cause me to be short?

Would love to hear from those of you that have used kits in the past!

If the kit is already cut I say don't wash. If not, you may just soak in the tub and drip dry to prevent much shrinkage. If you machine wash and dry you may end up with not enough fabric. Don't ask how I know.

Well neither kit is what I would consider "cut". As in, it's the amount of fabric in the kit that you need, but the squares, ect. aren't cut out already. Is that what you mean by already cut?

Are you prepared to buy extra fabric? Can you still get the fabrics? If the answers to these questions is no, then don't wash.

It may shrink too much to get all of your cuts out of it, sometimes they don't give you much extra. But it may be good to know that ahead of time

Well one kit is for a wall hanging that I probable won't wash after it's completed anyways so I guess I'll just leave it. But the other is for a quilt that definitely will be washed. I can still get the fabrics for it.

These are both Moda fabrics, one Sandy Gervais (is that spelled right?) and the other Fig Tree so their quality is good. Ugh, I just hate not prewashing.....

I wouldn't wash the wall hanging for sure and I would be afraid to wash the other. Good luck with whatever u decide!

I don't wash my fabrics from kits. I would hate to run short.

I agree - my experience is that they don't give any extra for shrinkage.

I think I have just figured out why I won't be buying another kit. I'm not going to prewash either so I don't run short, but I really dislike having to do that. Oh well, lesson learned. :)
