The answer to the question is easy in this case. My cat decided to use the fabric pile on the floor waiting to be put away as a latrine. She may be 18 but....I still want to scream!

oh noooo! I had a cat that would always pee in the laundry basket if there were clothes in it! clean or dirty, didn't make her any difference!

Ooops! My cat usually uses plastic bags that are left lying. Hope you can get the smell out.

I would prewash it just because but normally I would never prewash anything.

Wash it twice. Once in a pet urine removal detergent from the pet store and then in a regular enzyme detergent. That'll make sure there is no 'hidden' scent that will prompt some future cat use plus make sure there are no lingering bacteria that will spread or harm some future handler. Or just make your cat a quilt for Christmas.

Cat urine is one of the most difficult odors to completely remove. I would definitely use something like OdorzOut or NokOut in the wash water. Here are some links:

I had a cat thaat did that once. It is very hard to get the smell out, and if they can smell it they will do it again.

I always prewash. For some reason, I didn't prewash the fabric for the napkins that I was making. My iron dribbled a little water on one napkin as I was pressing it. And wouldn't you know, the fabric bled.

I will never not prewash again.
