We are so big on yard sales / garage sales / rummage sales here do you do that in New Zealand or other countries?? I know some people made out like bandits at my sale last fall...got rid of all kinds of craft supplies that I am no longer interested in, since becoming so interested in quilting. Had to clear out my space for a material stash :D

i cleared out my fabrics a few months ago -- anything that wasn't 100% cotton was out. Brought it to a charity garage sale (We have "diners" that feed the poor in this area. They hold fund-raisers to help with food purchases.) When I arrived with the three huge boxes of fabric, one of the ladies asked if I had children's clothes or adult sizes. I wish you could have seen those ladies spring toward me when I said it was fabric yardage. They began "claiming" it to put it aside for them to purchase on sale day.

My point is that women are searching for fabric everywhere they can find it. Went to Goodwill last week and looked long and hard at a bed sheet. Didn't purchase it, and now I'm sorry. Will go back today to see if it's still waiting for me to take it home and love it.

A few years ago, a friend who doesn't sew, asked me if I would be offended if she gave me a skirt that she no longer wore. She explained that she loved that skirt and hated to part with it (but it no longer fit her "expanded" size. :lol: It is cotton (perhaps a blend -- don't really know) and a pretty print. Now my dilemma is that I have been procrastinating with cutting it up. I want to have "just the right" quilt to make for it.

Can't tell you how often I have bought a piece of fabric I fell in love with and couldn't bring myself to cut it till I had the perfect project. Several years ago I bought several yards of real suede for a suit. It took me two years before I got the nerve to cut the patterns.

When I am in the US, I always forget that the tax is added on at the till! Here, it is part of the quoted amount. I think that the US is catching up with everyone else now so it means that we all feel the pinch! We will have to return to making quilta s our Grandmas did.

please don't be silly. sometimes americans need to reminded that more is available to us if we are willing to earn it and we are very lucky in many ways.

Mardens buys stuff in bulk, overstocks, going out of business stock... nothing is ever carried on a consistent basis - so if you find something you really like, you have to get it all then because there is no guarantee that it'll be there later.

I really like Mo & Macs Fabric Shack on Ebay.. lovely lovely fabrics...
