Price for featherweight
 

What is a reasonable price for singer featherweight with all its working parts? I'd like to venture into featherweight territory but don't know a decent deal. Please help?

It really depends on what you are looking for. It you want the refurbished, repainted, and as they say about cars, "All cherried out" then you are looking at a price in excess of $1,000.00. It took me years of checking quilt shops, yard sales and such to figure out I did not want to pay over $300.00. Then thru the QB I found shopgoodwill.com and Ebay. You read the review and also about the seller and make an offer. I ended up with 3 - 2 under $200.00 and one at $300.00. I felt one would be a good parts machine in case I needed one in the future. But all three were in fine condition, 2 were shipped with wonderful packing and the other was at the local Goodwill shop and I was able to pick it up.

I still check Craigslist from time to time to see what is out there - but before by the time I called it was either already sold or they wanted way too much money.

There is no set price - you have to figure out how much you want to spend and maybe talk to a LQS to find out what they sell for in the area. Or maybe your local Goodwill can tell you what they would charge if they got one in. Because they really are priced by what the local market.

I have 6 and love every one of them. I have not paid more than $300 for any of them. I also have one 222 paid more for her but she was worth it. I purchased all of mine from ebay.

Both of mine were under $250. They are out there , but do your homework on what you want. Mine came with cases and attachments. Both bought on E-Bay. I have had good luck with buying there.

Just bought mine on ebay at Xmas for $199. Great condition with no decal wear, and sews a nice straight stitch but I had to thoroughly oil & set the tension. Good luck. Look at the pics online carefully, and possibly ask to see a swatch of fabric with stitching (front & back). My seller took 15 day returns & insured the pk (shipping was $40) so I wasn't too worried.

Forgot to mention it was the sellers grandmothers! I never knew my grandmother (my mom had me when she was 46) Glad the seller didn't want it.

Vintage machines are one of the few things that are cheaper over here compared with the US, lol! I paid about $160 just before Christmas for my one, but could have got one in need of more TLC cheaper.

That is a great price for sure and a very nice looking machine.

Vanginney, you have a lovely machine! I have five machines and enjoy them all. One is a free arm which coast and arm and a leg.lol Here in Wa. I see the black featherweights going from 200 up depending on what you get.

We have purchased a number of them on eBay at those prices but we have also taken them apart, removed old oil and grease, put in fresh oil and grease, replaced parts, etc. and shined them up. We enjoy it! If you don't think you would enjoy it, be willing to pay a higher $$ amount in the $325 - $375 range depending on included parts. The older ones do not always have seam line markings on the needle plate. We did send one back because no matter what we did it didn't run. We were lucky the seller would accept a return.

truely they can be any price from $50 up to $1500+....and worth every penny to someone---you need to set YOUR budget--decide what it is worth TO YOU to own one- then go shopping, searching & look until you find the one YOU want that fits YOUR budget.
I spent 3 years looking for my vintage singer (not a featherweight) but exactly what i was looking for...& got it for $20! looked at many, many machines before i found the one that was THE ONE!...would have paid 10 times that for it! it's all (relative) each of us has our own idea of what is (worth/value) within our individual (comfort zone/budget)

I bought this off craigs list from a guy that said it was his moms and his wife didn't like it. He told me if it would of been black he would of sold on ebay for more...are you kidding me! handed him the money and excitedly left. needle was in wrong and sews great

On the subject of Featherweights, I bought one at our church quilt day last year. It was newly oiled and cleaned up. I sewed on it a little (worked great) until I had to rethread it . . . I absolutely could not thread the needle. The hole was so tiny. Do Featherweights use "today's" needles with slightly bigger holes? If not, I guess I'm done.

I have a white one that just sits. Guess I should sell it! But it's hard to part with these little guys!

The market depends on location. Price also depends on condition of the machine and the situation of the seller. If you are patient, you will find one that you like and that is within your budget.

I have 3 FW's the most I paid was 300 but that included the singer card table with the insert, the other two were 250 and 225. They all sew great and I use them all the time.
