I am having a garage sale this weekend and an older man asked me to sell this machine for him. I have no idea what to ask and would like all opinions on what you think would be a fair and good price. the machine sews beautiful and is very clean. I thought about keeping it but I already have way too much good stuff. thanks for all suggestions.

I'd suggest asking the owner what is the least amount he would take for it, and what he thinks is a fair price. Let those figures be your guide.

check similar machines on ebay

Shelbie 10-06-2011 04:18 AM

It's probably a $50 machine (it would be in Ontario) as it is going to need a very good clean-up for the machine and a re-finish for the cabinet. It also looks like the cords will have to be replaced as they look very worn and have that limp rubbery look. When all that is done, it will be a beautiful looking unit as well as stitch well. If you ask too much, it just won't sell.

stitchengramie 10-06-2011 04:29 AM

Do not go under $90.00 for it.

suezquilts 10-06-2011 04:45 AM

I paid $95 for a similar machine, Red Eye pattern. My cabinet is in better shape and had all new electrical cords.
Love it! My DGD use it, it is perfect for their sewing needs.

well I am checking ebay right now, thanks for the suggestion. I plan on sewing on it while having the sale. might as well do something while sitting outside on this soon to be beautiful weekend

I can't see it well, but is that a centennial badge on the machine? Did the gentleman tell you the model? Is there a manual? Attachments? Aside from the model info, these things will also help determine value.

Editted: As best I can see, the serial number starts AK017___

before AK017221, it is a model 15, allotted on Nov. 19, 1950.
If AK017221 or greater, it is a model 66, allotted the same date.

I don't see a spool pin on the top?!

Quilt Mom 10-06-2011 04:57 AM

Spool pins can be replaced. Is there a lever for the stitch length regulator? (right hand side of the machine on the column) All I can see is a blob (paint?)

gsbuffalo 10-06-2011 05:09 AM

serial number is ak017728 and the spool pin is in the box of things he brought with it. the lever for the stitches does have duct tape on it. I didn't take it off to see what is going on under it. I am so so grateful for everyones opinion on this.

blueangel 10-06-2011 05:24 AM

At least $90 would be my guess if it is in good shape.

Candace 10-06-2011 06:55 AM

About $50... any more than that, don't expect it to sell.

Lostn51 10-06-2011 07:04 AM

Its a 1951 Singer 66-18 and $50 is a good price for one in that condition that needs servicing. I usually sell them fully serviced for $100 or so and if they are repaints then $250 depending on color used.

Glad you chimed in, Billy. I figured you would know.

Barb44 10-06-2011 08:13 AM

I wouldn't pay over 50.00 for it since it needs new wires, cleaning and refinishing.

gsbuffalo 10-06-2011 08:33 AM

Big thank you from me also...

I almost feel that I robbed someone. My featherweight, no table, but attachments, sewed like a dream, very clean. sold at my sale for $265. When I see the prices here I almost feel I cheated someone. Have no idea what model or year. Marge L.

Yes, but what this is, is not a Featherweight. You didn't rob anyone selling a FW for that amount.

I would lean more to model 15. It looks like mine. It's probably not a 66....the decals doesn't look right for the 66 model

wraez 10-07-2011 12:00 PM

I got a similar one in cabinet with accessories and bench on Craigslist for $25. You could ask $50 but don't be surprised if they want to haggle.

Look at the location of the tensioner and the machine has the back tack option that was on the 66-18. Also the decals that were on the machine were only used on the 201 and the 66 and not the 15. Plus the bobbin plate is a give away seeing how small it is for the drop in bobbin.

Hi
Where is your sale this weekend? I live in Brooklyn also and would love to stop by.

mycatsmom 10-09-2011 08:50 PM

I paid $10 for a 1948,15-90. Mine actually looks better. I cleaned it up, did a few minor repairs myself and it runs like a dream. They wanted $35 but I could not get the wheel to turn all of the way around. I wasn't going to take it so they offered it to me for $10 in the cabinet. I couldn't let it go to the dump for that. Later, I found the wheel would not turn because the spool pin on top was stuck in the wrong hole not allowing the gears to turn.
