I do like the way the fabrics coordinate in jelly rolls but would never pay that price! That has got to be geared to the gal with deep pockets and a very rich husband who lets her buy what she wants.

I'm too frugal. I'd rather buy the fabrics and do my own cutting b4 paying for precut fabrics like that.

I personally wouldn't buy it just because I don't know what I'd do with 5" strips. But it basically is 2 jelly rolls which are $35 each, so the price doesn't seem totally out of line. I've only bought one jelly roll ever though because $35 for strips just seems high to me. But I've bought several layer cakes for that same price, go figure. :)

I definitely agree! I, too, calculate "price per yard" and wouldn't go over $10/yd.

I don't think the Fat Rolls are a good value. At least with the FQs you have options for cutting. With the Fat Rolls you're very limited. Admittedly there might be less waste overall, but I don't think creatively in 5-inch terms.

And I agree with those who look at total yardage. Our mommas raised us well.

I have bought layer cakes, jelly rolls, charms packs etc. Sometimes I save money in the long run by not wasting any fabric. You can make one large quilt out of a layer cake, about $35.00, except for the backing and batting. You can make a simple, fast twin out of a jelly roll. I combined the jelly roll with the layer cake and got two large lap quilts except for backing and borders. So even though they are a lot per yard, I think I save by not over buying fabric. I have enough stash I don't always want to add to it.

Absolutely no possible way would I buy a fat-roll or a bundle of fat quarters at that price. I get that prices are going up on everything, especially cotton, but if that is the price they are going to charge for new collections, I'll make due with old collections. If all fabric goes up like that, guess I'll be buying a bunch of muslin now and re-learning how to dye my own material and hunting out quilt patterns that depend on color hues and values to make them wow.
