Do we really have to choose? Is there any product out there for ink jet printers that will let me print my picture and will still let me wash the quilt? Advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm looking to do some pics of my kids, in B&W or Sepia tones.

there are a number of pre-packaged fabric sheets you can use that are treated to help the ink set-
there is retayne and bubble jet set-
it is important to use quality ink cartridges- the refilled ones dont work.
you should set your pictures aside and let them (cure) so the ink can really soak into the fibers- and heat setting is important too.

I believe that you will find that Printed Treasures is machine washable.

So, essentially what that article said is that the most you can get with Bubble Jet set is 80% penetration. That means that each time you wash, you are going to lose between 10% and 20% of your photo. 4 or more washes, and the picture is essentially half gone.

When I made my memory quilt, I took it to a special print shop (NOT Kinkos or a t-shirt shop) and had the photos printed on the fabric of my choice there. It was pricey, but worth it. They guaranteed no loss of image for a minimum of 50 washings. I've washed that quilt in a regular washer and dryer for at least 10 times now, and it's still perfect.

I used Bubble Jet Set for years and thought it was great.... then one day....the mother of twins mentioned the labels on their quilts had faded out so bad they couldn't tell whose was whose. I was very disappointed and since then have been hand embroidering my labels.
