Printed fabric issue

Hi everyone,
I wanted to make a memory quilt for my grandmother, but it turns out having a baby is a lot of work! I'm headed back home to Canada in a few days and had time to make her a quilted pillow. Everything was fine until I spritzed it with water to fluff up the quilting in the dryer. The package of printable fabric (Printed Treasures) said it was washable. While the ink didn't run, it darkened considerably. Not the end of the world, but I was wondering if any of you had a suggestion to set it so it doesn't worsen if she washes it. Retayne? Synthrapol? Both? Here's a picture : |
No idea, but it is really cute! Any grandmother would treasure that!
|
Did you heat set it with your iron after printing it onto the fabric?
|
I did heat set it :(
I'm thinking maybe it's my printer's ink as we didn't use namebrand ink but a knock-off? No idea how that ink would react with Synthrapol, either. |
I don't think I've used that brank of fabric but most of the ones I used needed to be rinsed to remove excess ink.

That's what I get for not reading the instructions. Thank you, kathy! |
It looks sweet.

Adorable pillow!

I would be very reluctant to use Sythropol ... and definately not Retayne ! Can you make a small sample and try it with the Sythropol?
|
I wouldn't worry about it. It looks good as it is and G'Ma isn't going to washing it all that often. I bet it is finished doing whatever it needed to do. My first experience with printing was a little dark, too, but the Epson printer lays down so much more than the HP. I did rinse mine as directed. When all else fails, read the directions.;)

I love your pillow and I'm grandma will too. there is some stuff you can get that you spray on that will set your ink. Age might do it. I wouldn't wash it.

Your pillow is great and the baby is soo very cute!! I might try to make something like that myself. Thank you for the idea.

The ink does matter...I got an Epson printer for that reason...the ink I have is Claria, but I think there is even one better that this. Also...you should let the printed item set for 24-48 hours and then I use Snuggle fabric softener...HAS TO BY SNUGGLE. 1/4 c in 1 c water. Holding 2 corners...drag the print through the mixture and then lay on towel and roll up to get out excess. Then you are supposed to use a hair dryer to quickly dry it....I actually don't do this and it comes out fine.
All printeble sheets don't act the same etiher. Hope this helps. |
Grandma will love it; it's just adorable!
|
What an adorable pillow, you did a great job.
|
My Epson printer uses durabrite ink, so I can rinse it but rinsing isn't necessary and the fabric is washable and doesn't fade. I no longer use my HP for printing on fabric.
