Has anyone printed on fabric using a laser printer? We have a new one and I don't want to ruin the printer or material. I was going to use the sheets that you buy especially for this. I had good luck with them on the ink jet printer. I had also tried the "make your own printable material" and had some sucess with that but it was hard to get to run through the printer without jamming.

I printed out small facial features to use in a small wall hanging. I ironed the prewashed muslin onto the shiny side of freezer paper and fed it through the printer. However when I told this to several quilters, many of them laughed at me and told me that the ink would rub off because laser printers aren't like inkjets. However, when I first printed it out I couldn't get it to rub off, so felt I could use them. And by the time the laughing began I had already finished and mailed the wall hanging to my friend... She says it still looks great and she won't give it back.

I am curiuos about this too - I have the same thing. I tried feeding some of the inkjet special paper through my laser and it smeared so I was worried that it ruined the rollers but it seems to be fine. However, I have been looking for the specialty stuff for the laser and haven't found any - did you?

they say never use a laser printer for fabric printing....inkjet printers only, it has to do with the heat involved with the laser printer and the ink itself will wash out. i do not know about pre-treating your fabric with bubble jet or something to help the ink set but i have heard that it is not good for a laser printer. if i had just bought one i think i would experiment a little and try it, but the experts do say inkjet printers only.

I think I will give it a go when I return home. Am traveling with husband on business now. Just worried that it would mess up a very expensive printer that the company bought!!! It just looks so much better on paper than the old one that I was hoping it would do the same on fabric. Too bad it doesn't usually work that way for me :( I'll post once I try it.

Moon Holiday ... which brand and model laser printer did you use? is it color laser, or just black & white.

i'm planning to go laser very soon for my default printer for everyday things. if i had one that would print successfully on fabric, i'd be sooooooo happy. my primary printer for fab does a fantastic job, but it's an ink pig. :hunf:

I may just listen to the experts on this one. I just never heard anything before- thanks for possibly saving my marriage :)

Hubby just got a color HP laser printer. Haven't done anything but paper and slicks in it but WOW what a difference! I kept my old ink jet just in case fabric was an issue in it and from the post so far, I am leaning toward using the ink jet.
