I'm doing a picture memory quilt for my grandson's graduation and wondered if I print out with my home printer on cotton material will it stay if he washes the quilt. The writing has printed out nicely but not sure if it will run either.
Thanks,

you will need to either buy pretreated fabric or the product Bubble Jet Set, which you can use to treat the fabric.

some printer inks are nearly permanent, but might run or bleed if the fabric isn't treated.

i discovered recently that my color laser printer will lay down what seems to be a permanent print on fabric, but i haven't tested it in the wash yet to see whether or how much it will fade.

Please learn from my mistake!!! I was so proud of myself... I printed about 125 pictures on quilt blocks. They looked so nice! Then as I always do, I washed the quilt when it was done - the pictures ALL faded out!!! OMG! I had to start over using iron on tranfers to replace the pictures! Thank goodness, I had printed draft pages so I knew where to place the pictures.
I would like to try again to print on fabric, but next time I will know to use the pretreated fabric. Good luck!

I've read others on this board say you have to use an inkjet printer, not a laser; let the ink cure by setting for 24 hours, and then iron it to set it. There have been other threads if you look for them.
