printing templates to size

I have a pattern and the template page has a box stating 1". Does that mean that the box is suppose to be 1" (it isn't, it's 15/16th of an inch) or does it mean I have to 'blow' it up on my printer until that box actually is 1" which also makes the other two templates 1/16th larger.

When you print the template the box should measure 1". If it doesn't, then you will need to print a bit larger - if only 2 or 3 % - which means the other templates will be the correct size (at 1/16" larger)

Just printed it at 110% and now the box is 1 and 1/16th so it's 1/16th larger. How do you do 105% on a printer?

For my printer, I just enter it as 105%.

I can even do decimal increments (eg. 104.8%) if that is what I need to get the sizing that I want.

Check your printer settings or the settings on the site from which you are printing and make sure the 'scaling' feature/function is not on. That is usually the culprit in mis-sized printed templates.

And when you turn off that feature, go back to printing at 100%.

You can look up proportion wheel on google and put it the measurements to increase or decrease the size and it will figure the percentages for you. Takes out the guess work. I learned to use one when I worked at a local publication. We used it to resize pictures.

DACO48, thank you soooo much! Many are available on line and you can use them right there!

My printer only does 100, a 125, 150, 175 and 200. So I'm up a creek ! ! !

Not necessarily ...... you could take a hard copy of your printout to a copier that would let you alter the % in smaller increments. Once you get your precise size, then mark that one as your master copy, and make as many copies as you want at 100% there, or at home on your own copier.

To get accurate sizes from PDF patterns you have to make sure your printer IS set to "No Margins", and NOT set to "Change Size to Fit". They are two separate settings in the 'Preference' and 'Advanced' tabs on the screen that pops up where you would select how many copies you want, etc, before you would click 'PRINT' and start the actual printing job (that's how it is for my HP printer). After printing you have to make sure that 1" box is exactly 1" on all sides or your pattern will be inaccurate.
