I am trying to make this pin wheel quilt with a difference. I saw it at a local show in my village.
It has rectangular patches as you can see. The HST's sew up 4.5" as drafted, made from 2 x 45/8" squares. The rec's cut at the same width -45/8" (because they join to the HST's) are too small, and cut at 47/8" they are too big. Has anyone made this quilt design and if so, can you please help me?
I have made 4 sets of these now and can't reach a solution. I don't want to waste any more fabric. May be I can't see the wood for the trees or just plain dumb.

I don't see anything, but you might experiment with paper rather than fabric. You can keep tweaking it until you get the size you need.

I see it now...very pretty! I still think I'd be playing around with it using paper, rather than fabric. I might also try to make it a little larger and trim it back to the size needed. It might waste some fabric, but it might save your sanity!

It looks to me like the rectangles are made using the TRI-RECS rulers.

I'd start with the rectangles and get it figured out first, then move to the HST.

Sandwich together two rectangles, both with right side up.
Draw diagonal from corner to corner.
Take the top one on the right and match with the bottom on the left, and sew .... one long blade made.
Repeat for seocnd.

Square and trim to the width/length you want ... then make your HSTs to match the width.

I always oversize when making, then trim nice and square.

The rectangles are twice the length of the square. If the squares made by HST are 4" finished, the rectangle is 8" finished. Cut 2 rectangles 8 1/2" by 4 1/2" put them together and sew diagonally. Or make them a little bigger and trim to size.

That is a cute quilt. You really have to look at it a while to figure it out.

Draw it on graft paper finished size. Then add seam allowances and then measure.

From looking at the picture, the rectangles appear to use a rule
called BiRangle by That Patchwork Place, Inc. I have the ruler buthave no instructions on how to use it. You might google the company name and find out more about the ruler. Good luck. It is a very different design. Esther
