I make many small quilts and love to donate them to an organization called Project Linus. Does anyone else belong to Project Linus or some other quilting group like this?? How do you like quilting in a group or do you prefer to do your own thing?? ;-)

I just donated about a dozen quilts to project linus. I just do them on my own and love that they will find good homes somewhere.

I have never quilted in a group except for when we get together to quilt one quilt, but I have been to "organized" crafting and sewing sessions and believe me, they were anything but organized. Didn't get a thing done. So I guess my answer would be that I would rather go at my own pace.

I also do Quilts for Kids. To answer your other question, I much prefer working by myself.

Mostly I sew alone, but love to go to groups and interact with the other ladies. Staying home it is only my husband.

OK, I married him for better and for worse, but not for ALL of the time. (We have been married 50 years, LOL)

I do charity quilts for All Children's hospital in St. Petersburg, FL, Quilts for Kids, and Miracle Quilts.

I do the LongARM quilting for a Linus group. Sometimes I don't really feel part of the group because I have no choice but to work on my own. Can't take my LA with me.

Quilts for Kids...and local shelters

I sew on my own and donate to a couple of charities. One for kids, one for vets and for the SPCA. I save my trimings ands use them as stuffing on small pet beds.

I do donation quilts for linus, for our local woman's shelter, for our police department, for the V.A., for Child protective services, and who ever needs one through my guilds. One of my guilds makes and donates about 15 guilts a month, the other guild makes 800 christmas stockigs a year, (which are slmost done for this year). Last month we made 29 turbans for M D. Anderson Cancer Hospital. This month we are making lap quilts for the V.A. Hospital. We sew individually or together just as long as the projects get done. I have 20 stockings half made in my sewing room to get finished by next week. We meet one day every three months and cut out kits. At our regular meetings you can pick up a kit to do and return it the next meeting. You can do the top or the whole thing. Our Rainbow bee meets once a month and will sandwich all quilts that need it and repackage for quilting, or binding. You have an opportunity to do things that bring you pleasure. Everyone in the guild who use Hobbs batting saves the plastic bags and when we have enough, Hobbs gives a discount in purchasing a roll of batting. Almost all of the fabric we make these quilts out of is donated. We are very fortunate. Two months ago, I took home a box of scraps from our last workday and proceeded to cut squares out of the remanents. One box yielded enough scraps to go about 3 quilts. I started cutting 6 l/2" blocks, then went through the box again and cut, 6 l/4" blocks, then 5 l/2" and finally 3 l/2" blocks. Then I cut strips of any length and any width to use as sashing or binding. It was a bigger project than I had ever would have guessed. I sorted all the blocks and strips into zip lock bags by size. It will be awhile before I do that again, but it gained a few quilts at only my TV time investment. The remaining very small pile of really small pieces I will send over to the Itty Bitty Bee for them to use in the miniature quilts.

Chapter asst. for Projecty Linus. Love our chapter too. WE do Four hospitals here in the Ft. WOrth area and have yearly sew-in days. I also do the Shelter here and Mission Granbury for the kids. I get donations all the time with either quilt tops or finished quilts. NP3 was here visiting and she and GRamma mo made ready bags of completed quilts and fabrics to go to the next meeting. It's a great cause and I do some for QFK's often. ♥♥

I make a few quilts a year for Project Linus, but most of my time is spent making quilts for our Wounded Warriors through Operation Quiet Comfort.

We collect 100% cotton blue jeans, strip out the usable fabric, cut into 6 inch squares then get the squares signed (using the OQC specs) then mail them to be made into quilt kits.

I have cut nearly 3,000 squares this year, so far.

I have sewn 50 of the 4 Freedoms Gratitude Quilts in the last 3 years.

During that time, I have also made 50 mini quilts for OQC, using their specs, too.

Local Animal Shelters get Pet Beds stuffed with the scraps generated from all this cutting.

Friends call me the Local Fabric ReCycle Center. I find homes for all the fabrics they give me- polyesters through cottons.

There are always people and animal who can use our talents and materials.

When I moved to this area recently, I responded to a Project Linus newspaper calendar announcement. I have been making anywhere from three to 10 pieced tops per month since then. It's been a great way to have fun with my stash for a good cause and, even though I mostly piece at home, I really enjoy the monthly morning work sessions and meeting some wonderful "real" people.
