I used to say Bay-Tick.
My sister has said Baltick. I told her there is Noel. (can't help myself. It's December) I was in a fabric shop and heard someone say Bah-teek. I haven't a clue. How do you say it? |
Main Entry: ba·tik
Pronunciation: \bə-ˈtēk, ˈba-tik\ Function: noun Etymology: Javanese baṭik Date: 1817 1 : a fabric printed by an Indonesian method of hand-printing textiles by coating with wax the parts not to be dyed; also : the method itself 2 : a design executed in batik |
I am terrible at understanding those pronounciation things in the dictionary. Can you make it phonetic?
Thanks. |

I've pronounced it many ways but the important thing is I love it.

I'm with the Bah-teak group. Sounds more exotic.
I've actually done some batik paintings on cloth many moons ago. I worked (not very successfully) with one of those wax drippers but mostly with melted wax and a brush. It was fun to work in all those layers. |
These are my absolute favorite fabrics!!! They even have their own special place of honor in my stash LOL
