I want to make some tied quilts that can be easily washed without the batting shifting or clumping. What kind of batting would you recommend? I have an older version of an Eleanor Burns' Log Cabin book. It suggests using bonded batting. Do they still make a bonded batting and if so, does it work. Thanks for your help.

I've used Warm and Natural, in fact, it's pretty much all I use. I just tie about every 6 inches (square knot) and the quilts are still holding up after 10 years

All poly battings are bonded and some cotton ones. I don't use cotton enough to know which are. You just have to read the label. For instance, if it says that it needs to be quilted every 2 to 4 inches, it is not bonded.

Thanks for the info! Thermore can be quilted every 10 inches, I believe. It's thin but I love it :) It's easy to hand quilt!

I've used poly batting on some kids quilts that are tied and they wear like iron.

read the packaging- they tell you if it is good for tied quilts- stay away from batts that need to be quilted every 2"-4"
scrim is like 'bonded'...warm & natural is a good choice
the high loft poly's are also used---there is a poly batt on the market that is 1" thick!!!it is made for tied quilts (way too thick to machine or hand quilt)
some packages say...'ideal for tied quilts'
some say they must be quilted every few inches.

I use the High Loft poly batting either from the bolt or found in packages - has worked well for me.
