PropertyBrothers

Just finished watching Property Brother on TV and one of the must haves for the wife was a quilt room. They went to an teacher's existing quilt room for ideas and then they made a room. Of course they said a quilt room needed lots of storage and a design wall. Unfortunately at the "reveal" they didn't show the wall but they did show the shelving. Anyone else see the episode?

Dang I missed that one. Now, I'll have to watch for re-runs.

It's nice to know we are not crazy nor alone in the world as quilters.....they are out there....wooo hooo wooo hoo hoo

oh! I would love to see that episode. We are moving south and retiring and I Have a Quilt RoomM yeehaw! I have so many different types of shelving from wire shelves, plastic craft shelves on rollers, and particle board heavy shelving to a corner desk made for computer with a sliding shelf that used to be useful for the keyboard. My head is swimming with ideas and while we can't afford all new shelves for this dream room I am hoping it can look a little more uniform. Anyone have some advice?
TIA Oh, and of course all these shelves are already full. I gotta stop collecting fabric!

Yes, just watched it last night. Nice room but not enough storage for my stash. Also don't recall seeing a cutting table either but might have missed it.

If you ladies that seen the episode recall the name of it, the rest of us are curious to view on our 'fire stick' or 'on demand.'

Charlene...I would go to the dollar store and buy shower curtains ...they will keep dust and sunlight away from your fabric as well as give the shelving a uniform look. You don't even need rods, just attach them with zip ties for wire shelves and thumbtacks for wooden. Or....you can get ambitious and use fabric !!!

My mom was telling me about this episode. I wish I had seen it.

I found this picture of it https://www.hgfandom.com/property-br...d-crafts-room/

The room looks small in the picture.

I saw it but thought the room small. as big as mine and it's small.

It does look small, and I don't see a cutting table or ironing station.
The first thing I noticed was that there was only one sewing machine. I gasped and thought, what have they done with this poor woman's other machines? :)

I agree---I did not see a cutting table of any sort. I need my Big board ironing board and a cutting table...DH made one like the wobbly one that JF sells...mine is made from wood and opens to 60" and folds down to 16". Love it!

The room does look small and if I read right it is only 1,000sqft house with 4bdrms and 2bathrms which makes all the rooms small.

I watched the show and couldn't wait to see the room. What a disappointment. They had talked about a design wall, but here wasn't one and I saw no place for her sewing or ironing station. And yes it was small. I think she will be back at the dining room table before long.

donna13350 03-30-2018 06:24 PM

I'm just mortified that the budget for that room was $100,000.00....the walls, floors and windows were all already there. There are hardly and cabinets...must be the price for labor?? Good grief! That was the budget..did anyone see what the final cost was?

Just have to add that the PBS series about quilting (can't think of the name, but was mentioned in a recent post) claimed that there are 21.3 million quilters in the US. I would like to know how they arrived at that figure. Certainly far too many of them are missing out on the Quilting Board!

I'm kicking myself for missing the Property Brothers. Thanks for posting this. They do a lot of reruns on that channel.

I saw that. Great ideas. We do need lots of space

Did any of you see one of the brothers actually sewing quilt pieces together? He said he was taught to sew as a kid. He did good.

Sunny580 03-31-2018 02:22 AM

There are lots of quilting rooms on Pinterest. Just search the board. Great ideas also.

That episode is Season 12 Episode 7. I was at the dentist and my appt ended before I could see that quilt room!!! So I will watch it now. That house was incredibly small, so I am not surprised the quilt room was tiny as well. You can have it all it a very small room, but as everyone said, I don't think they really hit all the marks on this one...
