Puff or Biscuit Quilt
 

Does anyone have a pattern or tips on making a 'Puff' aka 'Biscuit quilt'?

If you google biscuit quilt on internet, I think you will find a pattern.

On YouTube there is a video titled 'Biscuit Quilt Directions'.

My tip is to stuff the biscuits *very* loosely! I made a baby quilt out of puffs, stuffed what I thought was a reasonable amount, and the baby quilt turned out to be (almost) stiff as a board. Useless for a baby. Just so you know, a "little more" stuffing is not necessarily a good things with biscuits.....

that's a good tip Prism. one of those quilts is on my bucket list. hope i can remember that by then :)

Thanks Ladies :) I have read several different ways of doing this and I was wondering what tips could be helpful. I did read a few comments about overstuffing and making them too heavy. I saw one that sewed a row then stuffed each and then closed up a row at a time. I am giving this a try. I will post as I progress through this new endeavor! LOL Only for my daughter would I do this one! :)

My grandmother made me a biscuit quilt for my high school graduation in 1967. It is single bed/dorm size. The pattern she used for the squares was Trip Around the World, and the fabrics in it are remnants from clothes made in our family. It is a treasure! She hand stitched the biscuits together, but you will never guess what her stuffing was -- nylon stockings! The quilt weighs a ton. I am considering a re-make -- opening up each square, removing the stocking, and using the quilt as a top with regular batting and a back.

Remember the year pantyhose came in? It was 1968. I am lucky she didn't have any of those to use in the quilt, or it would have been even heavier had she used the thicker "panty" part.

I am fortunate to have 2 other quilts made by her given to me later -- both hand quilted, but when in high school I probably requested the biscuit style.
