I had no idea that puff quilts were a thing until recently. I am just learning from this that there is more you can do! So cool!

That's so pretty and looks wonderfully comfortable for your little one's photo ops!

Very pretty and you did a wonderful job on it. Love your fabric choices

How fun! I remember making a puff quilt, it was my first quilt, in those days it was called a 'Biscuit Quilt". My grandma taught me how to make it in the mid 70's. I used old nylons for the stuffing, and of course a lot of double knit polyester fabric, the thing weighed a ton!!

If anyone is interested, there's a youtube video tutorial. As I watched the struggle with the backing it dawned on me that if you were to use half inch seams, you could clip them and have it reverse to a rag quilt. This type of quilt gets very heavy when wet, and rag quilts have to be washed at least once, so that might be a consideration, but there are oversized machines in most commercial laundromats. There just might be another little puff quilt is in my future. I made only an 18" pillow using this technique in about 1980 when one of the popular magazines featured it. I think it's possible I still have the clipping in my hoard somewhere and will update if I find it.
This tutorial uses charm squares for the top, which is a plus, and he does it exactly as I remember from all those years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1PN6WU7_CU |
Rose- that's even easier than the way I made it years ago! Thanks so much! I'm going to make one with Christmas squares.

Cute puff quilt!

I have made a bunch and a bunch of baby Biscuit quilts. I have an instruction booklet that calls them Biscuit Quilts.
Biscuit and puff quilts look the same. |
A tooth fairy pillow is like a regular throw pillow (but a tad fancier) with a little pocket for the tooth for the tooth fairy.

Biscuit and puff quilts look the same. Yes, I think that was what my pattern was called way back then. |
I found the magazine with the project that I remembered. It was the Family Circle from February, 1977. The method was the same as in the video mentioned above. They called it "biscuit tufting" Their bed sized version, 108 1/2" square, used an incredible amount of yardage, including 4 yards for a wide ruffle on three sides. I'm sure it would have weighed a ton, but it looked charming.
