Puff quilt question
 

My DDIL sent me a picture of a puff quilt and asked if i have ever made one. I haven't...but i found a great tute and am anxious to give it a try for my sweet little grand-daughter. My question for those of you who have made them....how densely do you stuff your puffs ??? That was not really explained in the tute, but i know i will get the best advise from you ladies / gents.
The picture my DDIL sent looked like they were pretty dense - cuz the baby in the photo looked like it was sitting "on top" of the puffs. That seems a little extreme....but????

When I made my puff quilt, I just kept putting the fluff in until I thought it was the right amount. Then I pulled the fluff out of the biscuit to give me an idea of how much it was. I eyeballed the rest of them after that. Be sure that you don't over stuff them and make them firm. You will have a devil of a time sewing the puffs together if you do that! I bought a really nice poly fil at Joann's. It cost about $8 bag but it has a soft silky feel to it. I think it had "Silk" on the label.

I made one about forty years ago - can't believe it was that long, but before we moved to current house in 1977. Don't recall how it was done, but Aunt's answer above sounds right. Her quilt and her dog, sure are wonderful!

I've made about three of them. First one I over stuffed. Learned my lesson. They are fast and easy to make. Just don't over stuff. You should be able to tell. You don't want it real firm. Have fun!

Currently working on one and my instructions say to fill about the size of 2 large cotton balls or maybe 2-3 Hersheys kisses. Cloud Nine Pattern came with a kit...

If you want to stuff them full, you can. Just be aware of a couple of things. One--it's going to be a continuous fight to get them closed! Two -- it's going to be heavy!! Try it out & you'll see what you are comfortable with!
If you have a zipper foot and/or can move the needle position to the left, it's not too bad when you sew one puff together. However, when you try to sew 2 puffs together -- that gets tougher! You may want to enlist a child/grandchild's help to stuff them! It's a fun, great project!

I too made one 40 years ago! I used poly fiberfill and didn't put a lot in each one to keep it puffy and light.
