Does anyone know how to you get the puffy look in the applique, when you sew it on the quilt?

Thanks,
Joan

I have done puffy applique in this manner. Trace applique pattern onto used dryer sheet (I usually throw them in the wash a couple of times first). Cut out with generous seam allowance. Layer on top of fabric (face up) and batting. Sew on drawn line, and trim to scant 1/4" seam allowance. Clip corners and curves. Make a slit in the dryer sheet (you can substitute a light interfacing) and turn to the right side. Finger press the edges to make smooth (using a small beveled stick inside helps). Applique to quilt. It is a puffy as the batting you use.
