Hand whip stitched after it's quilted and binding done. I'd like to do it before I quilt it but I don't trust myself enough to get it in the right place before I know exactly where the edges (binding) are. Suppose I could just make sure by placing it farther inside than is necessary ... but there is a nagging anal quilter in my head telling me for some stupid reason that the label should be 2" from each edge of the lower right corner of the back. NO IDEA where that idea came from but I can't make it go away.
Going to bed. I'll probably have nightmares about wanky misplaced labels on quilts, and I'll be really mad because it will be at a quilt show and all those badly labeled quilts are the only ones with the blue ribbons and I'll get in an arguement with the judges. ARGH ... an active imagination is not a good thing right before bedtime. nite all |

This quilt has been a learning experience... next time it's going on first. |

I whipstitch it on after it's been quilted and bound, only because I never remember to do it before I add the binding.

I use my embroidery machine and embroider the info I want right onto the backing.

It depends. If I remember before I quilt, I prefer to use Lite Steam a Seam 2 just around the edges, then blanket stitch. If I forget to do the label first, I hand stitch it after.

I have done labels many ways. Writing on back with pigma pen; hand sewing lable on after and before hand quilting. Though before is a little rough, the stitches will not be even.

I attach after quilting and do it like hand applique. I prepare the label (I actually like to use the kind that are preprinted on fabric and cut like yardage) I cut out the pre printed label, starch it will (easier to write on that way) I write what I want with a pigma pen, turn under the raw edges, press and attach with hand applique stitch. Is that a whip stitch?
My machine also has a block alphabet and I have also used that to create labels. Sometimes I use a block that is on the front as a label if it is a "fancy" quilt. |

I have never put on the label before a quilt was finished. I always turn under the raw edges and whip stitch it down, but I see some new ideas here I'd like to try!
