putting together a quilt back
Hi, I don't know how to make a quilt back (out of the same material). My pattern says to buy 91/2 yards of fabric. Then what do I do? How do I cut the material. The quilt is 99 x 99, add 8" for the quilter, it's 107x107. Thanks!

Cut the 9 1/2 yards into 3 equal pieces, and sew them together length wise. If the fabric is 44" wide you will have to cut off 10" on each side.

You always want to give the person whose quilting that 4" on each side of the backing. I had someone give me the backing that was the same size as the quilt top. I had to spend extra time trying my best to center the quilt. Helps to have a large area on the floor to measure plus one of those 120" vinyl cloth measuring tapes (JAF has them). Measure twice and ONLY then, cut. Good Luck!!

Sometimes it is less expensive to buy extra wide back material. The wide back is usually twice as expensive a yard but you usually only need 2 1/2 to 3 yards.
