My machinge is slowing down....I can only sew about 5 minutes at regular speed than it gets slow. I push the foot peddle all the way down but it won't go any faster. I turn it off and wait about 30 minutes and it is back to normal speed - for about 5 more minutes. Does anyone know what this means or why it is happening?? Thanks for help.

Make sure all the plugs are in tight and nothing is in the way of the foot peddle.

If you find out the cause, let us know.

Mine was doing something similar to that, would be sewing along and it would just quit. I would check all the plug-ins and it would go again and then quit. I took it in and the pull cord that goes into the foot pedal had to be replaced. It was worth it even though it is a older machine, still runs like new.

What kind of machine do you have?

carolynbb 10-17-2011 05:52 PM

my machine is a Singer 6268

some of the older machines have an actual "clutch" in the foot pedal that goes out...you might have to take this one in for sure!

Sounds to me like something might be overheating. Since you don't sew for a period and it operates fine and then starts slowing down again, sounds like there may be some type of electrical problem. Feel the pedal and the cords, all along the cord but especially near the plug/pedal ends. If it feels warm, sounds like it's time for some re-wiring. Be careful!

sounds like there might be a problem with the pedal.

It could be alot of lint in the machine , have you cleaned out the lint lately?
