Question about 9-patch border that involves perspective
 

I remember studying about perspective in drawings (a long time ago). I have seen a black and white border on a quilt that makes the border appear further away where it frames the quilt and the outer row appears closer to the viewer. It is such a neat framing device for the pieced center of the quilt. Sorry if this is clear as mud. Does anyone know of a pattern or how I could execute a similar look. I have tried in eq7 and have not figured it out. I know it appears patches of the 9-patch to be different sizes and it would have to miter at the corners. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I am willing to buy a pattern, book, etc., if that is what it will take. I would be so grateful. Thank you.

I think you may be referring to the pyramids border. You achieve the depth (3D) by using dark, medium, and light or 3 different shades or tints.

Thank you for the reference, but that is not it. It is a black and white 9-patch, unless it is a black and white 4-patch. The size of the patch (black) on the outside is larger than the size of the black patch on the side next to the center and it forms a slanted pattern. The same with the white patches.

The book, 'Patchwork Persuasion' by Joen Wolfrom is about drafting blocks. She has a section on stretching and distorting. Some of the quilts in the inspiration section using this technique appear to be 3D. Not 100% sure if this will produce the result you are looking for, but you can get a used copy for a penny + postage on amazon. The book is very informative and has lots of eye candy!

Thanks, PP. I got right on that and have ordered the book. Unfortunately, at the request of the author, no illustrations were visible, only very small writing. So I really don't know if that will answer my questions, but for the price, I figured why not. Yes Geta's work is amazing.
