I usually leave extra on both ends. If the border is 3 inches, I leave 4 inches. If the border is 5 inches, I leave 6 inches.
The last time I did borders I had three borders. I mitered all three at the same time, worked out nicely. I would rather have too much and cut it off later than to fuss, tug and fudge on a corner. Syl
