Try the different techniques. One of our speakers at quild was a guy who does BEAUTIFUL applique. He works from the base forward when he does a piece. When he has the flower or whatever all together, then he appliques the object to the background. He has the outline drawn out on the base, and add pieces to that. (That is the technique I plan to use when I get the nerve to try this.) :?

Come on 'another sharon'!:)You will have fun w/this:)We'll talk you thru it...it is fun!
I pin my pieces first as I am usually needing to keep my 'whatevers' in place and they not move on me as I sew....which could happen to me!(Travels all over great too like this)LOL It also helps me to decide the layers in what I am sewing on....Try the video 'Eat Your Cake The Piece Of Cake Way'....excellent for ideas, etc. Check your local library for it. I think one reason for not adding the small pieces to the larger pieces first is that the large piece can get distorted and the edges frayed.

Vicki...I do hope you have figured out that in anything...you just have to find what really works for you:)We all have a bit of a different way of doing many things and each is what works for them/me:).

it is a video on the piece of cake way. I found it better then the class I had signed up for and half the price:) Keep us posted! Skeat

Thank you Bearpaw, I've taken your advice re adding my location, this is just to see if it works. Re. your original question, have you considered working your applique in block fashion, which would make them easier to handle, rather than trying to work on a much larger piece of fabric?

Lacelady 05-24-2009 05:58 AM

Nope, still didn't work, re. adding my location, so I shall just have to say jump in with the applique, it's great for portable sewing, travelling, and something to have in your hands in front of the TV. (from Co. Sligo, Ireland).

Just an idea, did you click the submit button after you changed it?

Gorgeous quilts in that video, Skeat!
I'm started with just the flower on the background a few weeks ago, after I finish with this flower, the next one I'll do it applique the center to the flower, then the flower to the background. I'll see which I like better.

Thanks again, everyone, for all the advice!!!

Trying again Bearpaw, thank you for the tip.

Lacelady, your location has been added! Don't know when, but it is there now! Welcome to the board. I LOVE this international group, and your snowflakes are to die for!
