Question about "bubbles" in wallhangings
 

I have two wallhangings with "bubbles. I am careful to measure the sides as even, aware of even fmq, careful with the binding, etc, etc. One of them has been wetted, patted, stretched and pinned evenly on my table, yet the bubbles remain.

Any suggestions? What am I doing wrong?

Are you using glue or a stiffening fabric ironed on? Perhaps that is what is causing the "bubbles".

I didn't see that you steamed the bubbles. That usually works for me. Sometimes I have to wet it quite a bit, let it soak it and then use a pressing cloth so I don't scorch.

No to glue and stiffeners and I haven't mastered the technique of posting photos. Sorry.

One of the quilts, I stitched a diagonal 1" grid over the entire sandwich and then I appliqued. The applique was extensive. The borders were added later by adding to the original rectangle. At one point, I thought the bubble was caused by the border. I removed the borders (3) with mitered corners and replaced to no avail. I have often thought of taking all the borders off and make sure the center rectangle lays flat and then reattach the borders.

It hangs in the hall and it seems everytime I pass it, I run my hand down over it to flatten. Uurrgghhhhhh!

Try pushing common pins through the wall hanging into the wall. The pins are small and you don't see them.

Grid on diagonal in body of piece ...is that where the " bubbles" are? Maybe your stitch length was too small and then sewing on the diagonal caused the fab to pull up.......or what you are calling bubbles may just be the puff of the quilting.....
