Question About EQ 8

Does this programme allow you to take an actual picture and turn it into a paper piecing pattern? Is that an add on? Does it work well?

Thanks, Watson (thinking about Christmas presents.)

Ask Barb from Louisiana. I learned today that EQ8 the upgrade is a download, no CD no thumb. I'm stuck there.

Yes, in a way. You can import a picture, and you can trace around it (with multiple straight lines) within EQ8. EQ8 will turn it into a foundation pattern for paper piecing, but you have to do most of the figuring out of how it's going to be put together. You provide the position of seams in the background, the numbering (if you want it), etc.

I believe you can request a CD. Call Electric Quilt and ask.

I did call them today and they walked me through getting my license numbers and pass words verified. And I did get that done. But I haven't gone back and tried to download it yet. They were very nice and helpful.

I had EQ7 and when EQ8 was just about to be released, they offered upgrades in advance for a very cheap price. Not sure, but I think it was only $25. I took advantage of that offer, and LOVE EQ8. I am by no means an expert, but I can usually figure out what I need to do. I design all my quilts using the software. I don't do paper piecing, so I haven't explored in that area at all. Sorry.

I use the convert to paper piecing a lot in EQ7. When I get the block I want I select foundation piecing and then move the pieces on the page in order I want to piece them. I can gray scale the different pieces to indicate fabric change and background if any. If the pattern can not be paper pieced , like a lot of curves, the program will let you know.

You can take a picture, upload the image into the program, and then you can trace it using EasyDraw which is part of the program. If you use mainly straight lines, you should be able to create a paper pieced pattern. EQ8 is very fun and user friendly. Check out DoyouEQ.com and Onpointquilter.com. Kari Schell has great classes. Search for EQ8 on YouTube. This version is powerful, yet very user friendly.
