Can someone please tell me the difference between a FQ and a linear quarter? I don't think I have ever heard of a linear quarter before. Thank you for your help.

I saw it in a connecting threads catalog today. I am very curios about this.

it is a regular 1/4 yard

As Abby quilts said, a Linear quarter would be a 1/4 strip cut from the bolt, or 9".
A fat eighth would be a 1/4 yard piece cut in half, so 9 x 22

A linear quarter yard is 9 inches by the width of fabric. A fat quarter is 18 inches by half the width of fabric.

Thank you for answering my question.

I believe it 1/4 yd. or 9" x 44"

I have to say if I'm given a choice I would go with the fat quarter.

Linear quarter yards are nice if you want to cut strips for strip piecing (like 2.5 x 44). But fat quarters just seem like more fun to collect. Now why is that?
