Question about faux suede
1 Attachment(s)
I am working on a quilt for a charity auction. The pattern is from Pleasant Valley creations and is titled
"Simply Delightful Quilt Pattern". The smaller 2 1/2" dark brown squares that go diagonally across the quilt are faux suede. They worked beautifully in the construction of the blocks. I have a large piece of the donated suede left and my question is, would you use it for the backing or part of the backing? I have washed a piece and it did not bleed, fade, or shrink. Thanks for you help. |
I would use it for whatever need. I personally think it would look great. Beautiful quilt top. Anxious to see the finish.

I see no reason not to use it. Your quilt is beautiful, and the dark brown squares add so much to the other lovely fabrics.
|
it would keep the quilt from sliding off :)
|
I would use it for the binding for one idea. It would feel good on the backing too. I love suede. I also love your quilt.

You could mimic the squares on the front with a square on the back in a bigger size.

My concern would be if suede can take any heat from the iron. I just prefer sticking with good old reliable cotton. You are boldly going where I would just be plain chicken to go. Good Luck.

I would use it. A long time ago Alex Anderson, on Simply Quilts, had a guest who worked in ultra suede, which I think is faux suede. He just rotated every other block and the nature of the ultra suede made for shading. It was beautiful. And I could never find that show on her website! Anyway, so far you quilt is looking great. Let us see when it is done.

Raising my hand here ~ (don't want to reveal the answer for fear of spoiling the fun). I have used faux suede in a quilt before. I did have to use a cooler iron to iron the blocks I made but figured most people would not iron a full quilt.
