I am a novice quilter having done just a day course. Now I want to do some at home.

I have many questions but first I think I need a walking foot for my sewing machine. I thought this would be simple but am baffled by what is available.

Can anyone tell me what foot I need to do quilting on my Toyota Model 221 and where I can get one?

Also what is the best basic equipment to buy. Can you recommend anything to add to this list:

Foot for machine
Quilting cutter
Quilting ruler
Quilting board

Your machine is a lot like a Kenmore, it could have a low, medium, high, or super high shank foot. But I think your machine will take a low shank foot but if you take the foot that you have to the local sewing machine repair shop they should have what ever you need.

I would just use a 1/4" foot to quilt with but if you want to free motion then you can find a foot specially for that.

But check with Hancock Fabrics and JoAnns they should have feet for your machine also.

While we are discussing the Toyota machine, do you think you could get me the JA and the JC numbers off of your machine? I am doing some research on the Japanese machines and the ability to date and see where they were manufactured. A lot of the Japanese machines were badged and a bunch of them were/are being made in India. The JA number should be cast under the bed and the JC should be stamped or inked on the side of the bed somewhere. If you have any information as to when it was made (like original sales slips, copyright dates on an owners manual)

Believe it or not that machine of yours has a lot of history behind it and the company was responsible for a lot of really cool 50's styling and colors. :thumbup:
