Question about Go Cutter/Dies

I want to order the Hexie dies, but am unsure whether to purchase the one large one (about 4 inches) or the die with the 3 smaller hexies on it. And if I purchase the smaller one which cutting mat would I need to use with it? Would I need a mat that would cover the 3 sizes to protect the rollers or just use a small mat that covers only the size I want to cut? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It really depends on what size hexagons you would like to work with. I prefer smaller blocks and variety of sizes so if it were me I would purchase the die with the 3 smaller hexies.

Regarding the cutting mat - The accuquilt site is great. if you read the product description for the die it will tell you which cutting mat size is recommended for the die. For example, for item #55011 they recommend the 6" x 12" Cutting Mat (55112). I have used a cutting mat that was smaller than my die to cut out just the shape/size on the die that I wanted but I always feel anxious doing so because I'm concerned that the blade on the other shapes might get damaged without protection from the cutting mat.

Thank you, Imanna. My concern is the same as yours. I have been debating this purchase for several weeks. I am leaning toward the three smaller ones. Off to look again at their site.

I have the three size die. I use the smaller one to cut the hex papers (lightweight cardstock) and the middle size to cut the fabric. I don't cover the large size with a mat. I let the mat hang over the front going into the roller.

I agree. I’ve been stalking their site for weeks and remember seeing more than once you only need to cover the shape you want to cut.

You definitely don't need to cover the entire die, unless you have fabric covering the entire die, and not, it will not score your rollers.
