Please advise me about what the best form of lighting I could get to help me see my work. I am attempting a "50 anniversary quilt" with appliqued blocks of the different places and events of our life together. Working with log cabin and individual "pictures" I am creating. This is my first ever quilt....and my friend/teacher started me out with...." this is a quilter knot"..... I found this site...and have been dropping in daily....what a joy all of you have been to me.

I can't tell you what is the best light but just wanted to say welcome from MO.

My machine does not have the best lighting system. So, I use a 'Bendable' light that attaches to my sewing machine, that shines downs on the needle/sewing area. Then I have a 'Ott' (table top) light that I set behind my machine that lights the back side and throat area. Ott lights can be found at Joanns. The Bendable I have seen at quilt shops and sewing machine centers.

In my sewing room I have an ceiling light, a floor lamp with both an up-lighter & a flexible 'goose-neck' and an Ott. I move the Ott & the floor lamp around as necessary. I do my piecing & pressing in the sewing room.

I do my hand sewing in the family room in a comfortable recliner. That way I can support the larger pieces on the chair arms & my knees. I have ceiling light, floor lamp & a table lamp in this room.

I love my "Bendable " light :D I too need all the help I can get with lighting.

I use the "natural sunlight" type lights. I have a floor lamp for hand work in the living room and just purchased a desk style for my sewing table. I can't believe how much easier on the eyes this type of light is. My desk style was purchased at WalMart for $20!

i have a ott light its a full sprectrum light and mimics the natural sunlight....i have a floor model but there are plenty of styles and price ranges out there

I have a ceiling light, floor lamp, floor model Ott light, a clamp on lamp and a bendable light plus the sewing machine light and I still can't see a darn thing at night. My DH is going to install new fluorescent lighting for me. All though it's pretty bright in the room with all these lights I still have so many shadows on everything that I feel like I can't see a darn thing, even during the day.
