I have asked a fellow guild member to embroidery a center block for a wedding gift for my daughter. She has agreed to do it, but doesn't know what to charge. It will just have names and their wedding date. Any suggestions from someone who does machine embroidery for others or someone who has had something like this done?
Please and thank you!

It is hard to say without seeing the design and knowing how much time is going into it and the amount of thread.

I can tell you the neighborhood of what a professional embroidery house would charge, $15 - $20, unless the design is large.

I usually charge at least $1 per letter/number.

I usually don't charge, but depending on the size, gee....I don't know.

It depends on who it is for. But I usually charge $7.00 if I do not have to move the hoop. Meaning, that if I can do it all at one time without taking it out of the hoop and rearranging it. Marge

Well , I just found someone that embroiderys , as a side business. I wanted a nice label made for my benefit quilt. She is stitching a small pheasant on it , along with the organization name , my name and date. She charges .70 cents a letter for the 1/4" size , and 4 cents a stitch for the pictures. I almost fell over-- the lable is costing me $35.
That is as much as I have tied up in fabric for the quilt. She said she would have it done by tomorrow. At least I am getting a free meal ticket for the benefit.

$35 is a lot of money did you explain that this was a fund raising quilt for a charity.

Yes , I did. She said , "I'll see how long it takes me to set it up. Maybe I can take less." I had 2 other names of people that do this , but they didn't answer their phone when I tried calling them. So I guess this is a learning experience.

At a commercial embroidery business, I paid $25 to have labels made for three quilts. (no pictures only words) The owner said that $25 was their minimum charge.

(Since that time, though, I hand embroider labels....)

Thanks for all your responses. I have an idea what I will offer and see if that is in the ball park for what she expects. Will post pictures when I get it back!

To me it should be any more than $10.00 tops. I did hats for $7.00/hat after they bought the hats. I was told I charged to little huh? After I got started it didn't take long and I made like $18.00/hour.
