I have a 1 year old brother sewing machine that is computerized- I need to oil my FW and thought I'd maintain the new machine at the same time. The manual doesn't have any info about oiling this machine at all. Do the new machines have too many plastic parts for this? The manual discusses a lot of cleaning and specifically says not to oil the bobbin case.

I have been wondering this myself. My Brother Sewing machine is about a year old and the manuel does not say anything about oiling. It just says not to oil bobbin.

Most of the new machines are self lubricating, adding oil to these can void your warranty :D:D:D

The sewing shop where I bought my Brother 900D says YES! oil the bobbin case. I have been doing this all along and my machine runs perfectly. I have also just purchased a 4000D and oil the bobbin case in it as well. They do run much better with oil.

Many of the newer machines do not require any oiling. They use a different type of bearing, than the older machines. Always consult the owners manual for oiling instructions. For instance, I have both a Viking Platinum 755 Quilt and a Pfaff Grand Quilter Hobby 1200. Both are less than 6 years old. The Pfaff requires oiling and the Viking does not.

My Brother needs a drop of oil on the bobbin hook, but if it needs it the manual would say to do it.

My Brother does not need to be oiled.

Sorry...oil the race...not the bobbin case. But I just put a drop in that hole at the bottom fo the bobbin casing...it does get on the thread for the first couple of stitches that way though so I stitch a rag first
