I am going to look at a brother nouvelle 1500 with a handy quilter. and a custom made table. Would this be a good starter machine for me to learn on? Also anyone have any idea the cost of the machine? It is appx 2 yrs old and hardly used. Any help or ideas on what to look for would be great. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, can't help you, but 2 friends have a Brother and love them.

You mean to start machine quilting? (Not piecing.)

Found this website with a little blurb in the last paragraph:

I would think under $600 for the machine.

Keep in mind a 9" throat is fairly limiting for machine quilting. This would be a starter type of setup.

I've had a Brother 1500S for about 8 years now and although originally purchased for a frame setup I now use it exclusively for piecing and table top machine quilting. It's fast and does a lovely straight stitch.

I've heard that Brothers are supposed to be great machines. I tried one once, and I really liked it.

My brother is 20+ years old, and not of the large ticket price and it is still running strong. I wouldn't have any other machine.

Prism 99 yes for machine quilting. I thought if it was a good one to learn more than SID and straight line quilting it would let me see if that is something I would like to do.

Thanks ladies I knew I could count on you.
