We make a TON of scrappy LCs, don't put anything special in the center. But if you do it looks nice.

All lovely, but that black and gold really pops!

Wow!!! Your quilts are gorgeous!!

Plainjane....I'm still cutting my strips, so I haven't decided what I'm going to start with. I'll do a few blocks and then post a pic.

I knew you ladies could help me :)

Traditionally the red represented the chimney, usually where the family gathered but I've seen many beautiful log cabins using many different centers.

You are soooo bad! Now all I can think of is that I have quite a bit of brick, wood grain and stone fabric that I really need to make a few LC blocks from. Groan, another quilt. Maybe I won't like it.

My approach to quilting is, rules?? What rules?? The only rule I follow is to love what I'm doing. Quilting to me is an expression and I express myself in whatever mood strikes me at the time. Do what you want and don't worry about the rules, they are meant to be broken and stretched!

This is what I was told many years ago---red center is for the hearth, the fireplace, of the cabin and a gold/yellow center symbolizes a candle in the window for the returning workers at night.
Good luck and Happy Holidays, Kutnso
