Question about Pointed v. Rounded Dresden Plate Blades
 

How do I get those pretty rounded dresden plate blades? Do I need a specific template? Can I fashion a template using the template I bought that makes the pointed blades? I was thinking I could just use the square template and kind of draw a curve at the top onto a piece of cardboard so I could use it to cut out blades for my patriotic dresden plate I want to make.

I've made the Dresden with the points - those go very quickly! It looks like on the rounded blades a 1/4" is turned under, pressed then stitched.

I should think you could take something with the size curve you need (like a glass, cup, mug...whatever), and be able to get a perfect curve to meet each side of your dresden blades from your existing template.

When I did the curved blades, I used a cardboard templet, painted starch over the rounded edge of the fabric blade and pressed over the cardboard. Worked very well for me. I used a templet from a book. I'm sure you could fashion a rounded edge using your templet. Be sure to leave the 1/4 the inch to iron over the cardboard.

you could make a rounded template out of heat resistant mylar plastic and use it to press the curve by placing it 1/4 from edge and folding the fabric over that and pressing in place. then applique down.

Some people cut out interfacing to match the shape of the top curve; apply it to the curve, and then turn it inside out to applique it. Makes a nice, finished edge and not a lot of trouble....I think that's what I would do (that reminds me, I have one my Mom started and I need to finish it! H-m-m-m-m......)

This is how I would do it. No need to buy anything else and it would be consistent.

Remember the days of cardboard or sandpaper templates. By the time they were well used the outer edges weren't the same anymore.
