I ordered some books from Connecting Threads(my first purchase with them) and they sent a free charm square sample of fabric. It felt lovely to me- softer than anything I can find in the stores here. (I live in a small town.) How does their quality compare to some of the better known fabric makers-such as moda? Any super nice fabric I want will have to be bought over the internet, so I have no way of knowing what I am getting prior to it showing up on my doorstep. Is Connecting Thread's fabric quilt shop quality?

Hi, I was just going to post this same question. :-)

I have found their service to be excellent and the fabric feels wonderful, almost like silk.

But, I have one problem with it, and it may simply be my inaccurate newbie cutting. :oops: The fabric seems to shred along the cut line. I lost over 1/8" on some blocks from the loose threads pulled away from the seam. Is it something I am doing? When I called them, they had never heard of this problem, but assured me that the fabric was quilt shop quality (which I do agree with) and also stated that the fabric should NOT be washed prior to use. I had suggested that to maybe tighten the weave, but they said no. Is this possible? I haven't had this problem with VIP or Moda fabrics.

I ordered a quilters tote kit from them late last year.... It's still in kit form, if you get my drift. That's my fault, however, nothing against the fabrics. They feel quite nice. I've looked at their catalog a few times since (evidently you get it via mail once you place an order) and several of their fabrics have caught my eye. I'm really, really trying to stop buying for a while, though.

I love Connecting threads! I have never noticed fraying, but I starch the crap out of my fabric so that could be why.

Why would they say to not wash the fabric prior to use?

Personally I have thought that their fabric seemed thinner than others I have bought. It IS very smooth, almost silky, to the touch so maybe that's why it feels thinner or maybe just softer.

I use heavy starch too so it doesn't make much difference in the construction part of it.

Thanks for the advice, and starch I will. I bought a lot of clearance kits late last year, so I have a lot of their fabric and other than the shredding it seems like good fabric.

Pam, I don't know, the woman on the phone just said not to pre-wash when I suggested it to tighten up the weave, but she didn't explain why and I didn't think to ask.
